A true expert should be able to take years of learning, knowledge and experience and dumb it down to a level that can help you understand it completely and succinctly.

Ask them to dumb it down, break it down into its’ most simple, basic components.

Why is this so important?
1 – You’ll ensure you found yourself an actual expert in whatever topic you’re investigating.
2 – You’ll have simple actionable steps, insights or lessons which you’ll be able to understand, absorb and action.

If you’re the expert, keep this in mind. If you can’t explain it simply – there’s a good chance you may be struggling with some concepts, or you may need to practice your ability to tell stories and explain concepts.

Confusing someone never makes you an expert. Teaching someone something and seeing them internalize your insights and action them effectively, does.
